HE’S the high flying headliner who hates flying.

Cam Bianchetti, who performs as Late Nite Tuff Guy (LNTG), has marquee billing tonight at the Falls Festival in Lorne, and tomorrow in St Kilda.

But Bianchietti, a star in the techno, house, and so-called disco edits scene for two decades, admits his fear of flying has stifled his career.

He took his first flight in 14 years last June.

“I still have a fear of flying,” he said. “I haven’t overcome it by any means. But I get on a plane and deal with it as best I can. To others, I probably look a wreck.”

He hates the take off and midair bumps. However, his LNTG career is on the up-and-up.

LNTG deals in disco edits – essentially remixes of dance floor classics for modern times. His rejigs of everybody from Toto to Chic, Sister Sledge to Grace Jones, have a legion of fans worldwide.

That following inspired Bianchetti to play sold-out shows in Britain and Europe last year.

“It opened my eyes to everything,” he said. “People on the other side of the world knew the music, they knew the edits. They knew me. I was completely amazed by it.”

Bianchetti’s first career phase was DJ HMC, a 1990s techno and house music luminary with ahead-of-the-curve hits, Phreakin’ and Cum On.

“That was fun,” he says. “We didn’t really have the internet then, so you had to go out to hear new music.”

He plays the odd techno and house set today, but LNTG has a busier schedule.

“I’ve always loved disco,” Bianchetti says. “That music reminds me of my youth.”

His edits are about giving new life to old beauties. “A lot of people are scared to take on the classics. But I love a challenge and I’m always respectful to the track.

“It’s also very emotional for me. It’s a thing that pulls at my heartstrings. It’s like when a person cooks with absolute love. You can taste it, yeah?”

LNTG plays at Falls Festival (sold out) tonight; and The Deck at Circa, St Kilda (with Kaz James and John Course) tomorrow..
