WHO knew Kanye was such a fan of female empowering 90s pop music?

When writing and producing this year’s biggest hit, FourFiveSeconds, for Rihanna — apparently he insisted on roping in 90s girl band Wilson Phillips.

You might remember them from their cringe-worthy hit, Hold On.

Carnie Wilson, one-third of the trio, revealed to Billboard the band was specifically requested by Kanye to sing backup on his collaboration with Rihanna and Paul McCartney.

“He said, ‘When I think of authenticity and I think of angelic, I think of you,’” Carnie said.

“He was really shy and he would just smile and he’s real soft-spoken, then all of a sudden when he started playing all these songs, he was dancing around the room.”

And after convincing them to sign on, she says he let them take control.

“He gave us sole freedom to just do what we do.”

Billboard claims the group can be heard in the chorus and the bridge of the song.
