THE sweet voices of sibling duo Angus and Julia Stone have been reunited by legendary American producer Rick Rubin for a new record.

The folk pair announced they were taking time out from each other to pursue solo records two years ago.

But Rubin, one of the most respected and powerful music gurus in the US, got them back together for their self-titled third record due out on August 1.

It is believed he has helped take the pair in a new direction, bringing their voices together in blended harmonies, introducing new guitar sounds and beefing up their rhythm section.

Rubin, who has worked with everyone from Metallica to Adele, produced the album at his famed Shangri-la Studios in Malibu late last year.

“This album is extraordinary; Angus and Julia are truly unique musicians,” Rubin said.

“They are authentic and pure people who do things from the heart. I’ve never worked with anyone like them before.”

He has also signed the pair to his label American Recordings for release in the rest of the world outside of Australia.

The brother and sister from Sydney’s northern beaches were working on their third record in 2011 when they decided to ditch it in favour of their respective solo albums Broken Brights and By The Horns.

Angus and Julia have sold more than half a million records in Australia alone, with their second album Down the Way topping the charts and winning them a clutch of ARIA awards in 2010.

Their break-out hit Big Jet Plane topped the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2011.

The first taste of the new record is expected next month when the duo release a single.
