The Mac is back with a solo gig
IT isn’t the longest wait for a new album in Australia but Paul Mac has revealed he finally will release his first new solo offering in a decade next month.
While The Avalanches continue to keep fans waiting for their new music 15 years after releasing their first and only album, Mac will drop new single State Of War on February 9.
The award-winning composer and remixer readies his new tune just days after his good mate Daniel Johns posted a hint that his debut solo material will arrive on January 29.
Universally known as the nicest guy in Australian electronic music, Mac has been far from idle in the 10 years since releasing his Panic Room record.
Prior to that album, Mac and Johns had formed The Dissociatives together in 2004 and the producer also toured extensively with Silverchair as their keyboardist before the band called a halt in 2011.
The classically-trained musician has also been in-demand for film soundtrack and scores in recent years, working on music for Beautiful, Kath and Kim and Hey Hey It’s Esther Blueburger.
Mac and his Stereogamous partner Jonny Seymour were also tapped by George Michael to collaborate on his long-awaited new album and remixed songs for Sia, Kylie Minogue and LCD Soundsystem.
His third solo record Holiday From Me features an intriguing roll call of guest vocalists including Megan Washington, The reels’ frontman Dave Mason and former Faker singer Nathan Hudson.
Other solo artists who feature on the record due on April 10 are respected singers Kira Puru, Ngaiire, Brendan Maclean, Shaun J Wright and Dappled Cities frontman Tim Derricourt.
The first single State Of War feature Puru and DJ Goodwill and is released on February 9 ahead of his much-anticipated performance at the Sydney Mardi Gras party in March.
“Mardi Gras is the perfect home to debut the new album.” he said.
“Mardi Gras helped me come out all those years ago and filled me with a pride of being that can’t be stopped.
“To share such a bunch of personal tracks with like-minded spirits, at the home of my community, feels like an apt and a beautiful way to begin the project.”
The Avalanches are rumoured to also be readying the follow-up to 2000’s Since I Left You for release this year.
