Swift: Music not men comes first
TAYLOR Swift swore off men after her breakup from Harry Styles, saying the focus on her relationships and not her music “broke my heart.”
Swift, who has dated a string of eligible bachelors including John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Conor Kennedy tells Us Weekly that she was done with men after her 2013 breakup from Styles.
“I was selling out stadiums and (my relationships were) was all people talked about,” she said. “It broke my heart.”
So instead of dating she went into the studio and recorded 1989, which sits atop the US music charts for another week and has become the biggest album of 2014.
The album marks a departure from Swift’s usual breakup songs which have included Dear John (believed to be about Mayer), We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (thought to be written about Gyllenhaal) and I Knew You Were Trouble (which many say was written about Styles).
Her first track Shake It Off went to the top of the charts.
She tells Us that one of the tracks on the album, How You Get The Girl, is an instruction manual for men.
“It’s written for a guy who has broken up with his girlfriend, then wants her back after six months,” she said. “But it’s not going to be as simple as sending a text like, ‘Sup? Miss you.’”
“That won’t work. You need to do all the things I say.”
