Swift gives shout out to Kiwi singer
TAYLOR Swift has given a massive shout-out to an unsigned Kiwi artist, picking his stripped-back cover of Shake It Off as her favourite.
New Zealand musician Jesse Will recorded a sombre version of Swift’s mega-hit in a London church for YouTube’s ReLoad Sessions.
“Do you love Taylor Swift but wish she had a beard? Here’s the next best thing,” wrote Will after posting the clip to his Facebook page.
And it seems Swift’s a fan, tweeting her approval to her 49 million followers.
My favorite covers are the ones where the artist has made it their own, changing the way the song makes you feel. http://t.co/2rr3QVUiCk

Swift’s stamp of approval has led to a rush of attention for the London-based singer, who is back home for Christmas. His video has so far been viewed 180,000 times on YouTube.
“Pretty sweet day so far — Swam at Pauanui beach, had my new video recommended by Taylor Swift, came home to a news crew at my house and a call from stuff.co.nz. Mum’s confused,” he wrote on Facebook.
“Cheers Taylor, best birthday present ever. X”.
Will told stuff.co.nz the endorsement from Swift was a “nice surprise.”
“I’m really glad she liked it, I guess because that’s the biggest compliment, from the songwriter themselves. It’s nice to gain recognition from someone who’s been in the industry that long and with that amount of success,” he said.
The publicity has been a boon to the Will, who has a new EP coming out in March.
