SINGER Sam Smith has cancelled the remaining dates on his sold out Australian tour, including his performance at the Logies.

Smith was been diagnosed with a small haemorrhage on his vocal cords in Sydney last night after being “vocally exhausted” after months of touring.

“The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal cords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue,” Smith said in a statement.

“I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets, I truly am. This kills me.”

Smith’s promoters Frontier are scheduling a new Australian tour for December 2015, which is already a busy month with tours by Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.

Smith had played shows in Brisbane and Sydney this week and had shows in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth to come.

All shows were completely sold out. As the new shows will likely be in larger venues all ticket holders need to get refunds from the point of purchase.

Cancelled ticket holders who purchased their tickets from Ticketek and Ticketmaster will be offered a first-purchase option on the new tour.

Frontier are frantically trying to negotiate new dates with Smith’s team after the shock news, with the singer one of the most in-demand artists in the world this year.

Smith’s album In the Lonely Hour hit No. 1 in Australia this week, after 48 weeks on the chart and a 60 Minutes TV special.

The singer told News Corp previously he has been embarking on a more healthy lifestyle this year and has visibly shed several kilograms since his holiday in Australia last New Year’s Eve.

It is not known whether his Japanese dates, due to take place from May 8, will be affected with the singer waiting on further medical assessment.

Smith has tour dates around the world locked in until September.

It now means the Logies will be scrambling to find a new musical guest to join Ricky Martin and Meghan Trainor. It does open the door for a local act who will get some last-minute national TV exposure.
