HER HERO: Samantha Jade says her mum is an inspiration

“Our beautiful mother Jacqueline Deans Gibbs passed away peacefully with family by her side,” Samantha Jade wrote in a statement. “She fought until the very end with the strength and grace by which she lived her life and will be deeply missed. We appreciate your kind words, prayers, and respect for our family during this very difficult time.”

Jade put her performing career on hold in recent months to help care for her ill mother with her father Kevin and younger brothers Alex and Thomas.

She only left her family’s Perth home in recent weeks to perform at the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation ball in support of surgeon Dr Charlie Teo.

Jade was made aware of her mother’s diagnosis just days before she made her major acting debut as Kylie Minogue in the INXS television miniseries, however told The Daily Telegraph all she could think about was the tragic news.

“You can’t do life without your mum,” Jade said at the time. “One of the hardest parts of this is my mum is everything to me.”

Jade, 26, knew from the outset her mother’s diagnosis was grim and that the time she had with her would be limited.

“Every day now is a gift,” she said in February.

“Basically that day we didn’t know how long we would have her for. At the moment it is a day-to-day thing and I have to be grateful every day and tell my mum I love her and ask for everyone to keep giving that positivity.”

However, she said writing music while spending time with her family during her mother’s illness had been cathartic.

“I’m writing from a different place. I have been focusing on making sure I’ve been working hard because my mum would not want it any other way,” she said. “She says to me ‘Don’t stop doing your music’.”

The Firestarter singer hit the limelight in 2012 after winning The X-Factor, her second attempt at fame. She embarked on a singing career in the US as a teen, but experienced setbacks and finished so depressed she couldn’t even listen to music.
