GRAMMY-AWARD winner Linda Ronstadt says she is unable to “make any quality sound” as her health deteriorates leaving her move easily.

The 58-year-old revealed in August last year that she is battling Parkinson’s disease, which has destroyed her world-famous voice.

“It wouldn’t sound like anything. I can’t get to the note. I can’t make any quality sound. I can’t arrange pitch. I might aim for a note and hit another one. It sounds like shouting,” she told CBS San Francisco.

“I’m still getting around, but it’s harder and harder. It’s just really hard to move. It’s hard to wash my hair, brush my teeth, put my clothes on. It’s hard to get up and out of a chair. But once I get going, I can go for a little bit.”

“I walk around the neighbourhood a little bit, only a couple blocks now. I used to walk down to the beach, but I don’t do that anymore,” the San Francisco Bay resident said. “My life is very different. That’s all there is to it.”

The Don’t Know Much singer, who has sold over 100 million albums and was the first woman ever to have four platinum albums in a row, said she didn’t try to think too much about what the future holds.

“Well, long-term prognosis is death, I guess,” she said. “Something’s going to kill you eventually. It takes a long time [for Parkinson’s] to kill you. Something else will probably get you first … I don’t think about it. I think about what’s going to happen today because I just figure, I don’t have a crystal ball.”

The singer, who hasn’t sung publicly since 2009, has had her talent recognised a number of times this year. In April she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in July she travelled to the White House to receive a Presidential Medal of Arts from US President Barack Obama.
