NOTORIOUS hard rocker Glenn Danzig is on the receiving end of online outrage after a video of him ordering the crowd to attack a fan at one of his concerts has surfaced on YouTube.

The famously egotistical Misfits founder and the frontman of his self-titled hard rock outfit, has form for public attacks, including a failed attempt to induce a riot at a concert and for claiming Australian actor Hugh Jackman had played his Wolverine role in a “gay way”.

The latest outburst, which has critics calling Danzig an “a–hole” and making fun of his short stature, happened at a concert in the southern US state of Florida.

Danzig headlined the gig at the Cuban Club in Ybor City.

According to a YouTube commenter who claimed to be at the same show, the venue had signs posted forbidding video and photographs.

During the opening of doom-rock ballad Blood and Tears, Danzig noticed someone in the audience recording the performance on a phone, wagged his finger and yelled from the stage, “somebody punch that f—ing a–hole right there”.

The crowd cheers, a security officer intervenes and while the man was not punched, he was ejected from the concert – for a short while.

The video, which ends soon after, was uploaded to YouTube with the title, “Glenn Danzig is an A–hole”.

The video maker claimed he did not see the warning signs: “There was no mention on the Groupon ticket about such a policy. Thank God I didn’t pay full price and even got a free drink out of it. I’m not sending another dime this a–hole’s way.

“For the record, I didn’t miss the show. I got back in.”

The Twitter response to the video has mostly been anti-Danzig, who copped it on numerous sites.

On dangerousminds.net, he was dubbed a “dweebie power-mad troll who spends his life over-compensating for the fact that he’s no taller than a fire hydrant and just about as intelligent”.

Vice.com was a shade more polite, saying “we wholly understand wanting to protect your image”.

“You’re old and short and not quite (READ: nowhere near) as interesting as you once were. But things can be done subtley (sic) and tastefully. Sweet move on telling your fans to attack one of their own.

“Also, are you aware that pretty much EVERYONE ON THE PLANET HAS A VIDEO FUNCTION ON THEIR PHONE NOW? Good luck on stopping that.”

However, gawker.com came to Danzig’s defence.

The site posed the question “who’s the bigger a–hole here? “Dude buys a $ 19 ticket to see Danzig on Groupon, gets a free drink, and then gets angry when the guy onstage gets p—ed that a coupon-waving tool down in front is watching the show through his smartphone screen?

“It’s not as if asking fans to put down their phones is an uncommon request.”

In 2011, Danzig tried to incite a riot at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas and ended up looking like an idiot.

Last year, Danzig lashed out at Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine, who the rocker had been slated to play in early talks with the filmmakers.

He said he “wouldn’t have been as gay. Actually, he wasn’t the first choice. They hired Dougray Scott. He had a falling out with the director, and then they hired Hugh Jackman. I’m glad I didn’t do it. It was terrible.”

Danzig was once punched by singer Danny Marianino, from North Side Kings, who later wrote a book, Don’t Ever Punch a Rock Star, about the experience.
