POP superstar and reality television judge Ricky Martin is returning to his boy band roots.

Martin, who started his career in pop five-piece Menudo, is set to star in a new reality show, alongside music mogul Simon Cowell, to create the world’s next big boy band.

“We are creating a new boy band,” Martin said.

“We are going to document everything, present it to the audience, and let the audience decide. It is going to be an amazing journey.”

Martin, 43, joined Menudo, one of the biggest Latin boy bands ever, when he was 12.

He said: “I know what needs to be done in order to survive in this crazy life of show business.”

Martin will manage the boy band he co-creates with Cowell.

“It’s so amazing that I’m still doing this after so many years,” he said.

“If I was traumatised, trust me I would have quit.

“But I love the business … and I’m still learning.”

Meanwhile, Martin will hit the road for a national tour, playing at Rod Laver on May 2, and an intimate show at Palms At Crown on May 6 for wellness brand Swisse.

Martin, father of two boys, says he loves visiting Melbourne.

“I know it is a city of culture, a city to discover,” he said.
