IT will be this Sydney-born rock star’s first ever full Australian tour in October.

Rick Springfield, the Jessie’s Girl hit maker, played a handful of songs on the Countdown Spectacular package tour in 2007.

However Springfield’s last major tour of Australia was with his band Zoot in 1971, who had a hit cover of Eleanor Rigby.

“I am and will always be an Aussie,” Springfield said. “My best memories of my early career are all centred around Australia. It will forever be my home. I can’t believe I have never done a full tour in Oz as a solo performer. I am a f@#!ing Aussie boy.”

Springfield has returned to the Australian Top 5 this week — he is featured playing slide guitar on Russell Morris’ No. 4 album Van Diemen’s Land.

The musician has made several personal visits to Australia over the years, including to see Zoot bandmate Darryl Cotton just before he lost his battle with liver cancer in 2012.

On that trip Springfield played an impromptu three song acoustic set at a cafe in Boronia.
