CODY Simpson has no problem with his fans egging him on. But he hopes they leave the eggs at home for his Australian concerts with mate Justin Bieber who has also been the victim of an attack of the messy missiles.

The 17-year-old homegrown pop star was egged at a shopping centre performance in 2011 just a few weeks after Bieber was targeted at one of his concerts.

“What is it with Sydney and eggs?” Simpson joked.

The polite Gold Coast teen, who is managed by Bieber’s team, is Australia’s biggest Twitter celebrity with more than six million followers.

Like most pop stars in the digital age, he maintains a constant “connection” with his fans.

“They are really dedicated and I try to be as dedicated to them,” he said.

“Sometimes I wish there could be a little more mystery and I’d been an artist in the 1960s when you could release your music and play the shows and no one would know anything about you other than that.

“Now you have be as open as you possibly can.”

So far the openness of this well-mannered young man hasn’t resulted in any scandal beyond being linked to Hollywood reality television teens including Kylie Jenner.

“I am pretty cruisy and have never had any drama, I don’t want to speak too soon,” he said, laughing.

“I want to make music and that’s it.”

Simpson wants to emulate his songwriting heroes Bob Dylan and Jack Johnson on his next album and has already scored a tune from pop folk star Jason Mraz.

But before he heads back into the studio, the Simpson family plan to see out the end of 2013 back home on the Gold Coast, where he enjoyed a “private schoolies” celebration with mates as his touring boss Bieber partied with the locals.

“He loved my hometown, he kept trying to get me to take him surfing but we didn’t get the chance because I was catching up with my family and friends,” Simpson said.

He performs at Allphones Arena on Saturday and will present an award at the ARIAs on Sunday.
