Pharrell gets animated for It Girl
HAPPY man Pharrell Williams gets very animated in the video for his latest hit-in-waiting It Girl.
The man in the hat teamed with renowned Japanese artist Takashi Murakami for the anime meets 80s video game clip.
In a colourful departure from the current crop of oversexed, underdressed advertisements for new songs, Williams gets the cartoon treatment in this psychedelic visual feast.
While its all sparkly and glitter guns, animated Pharrell does get a little pervy in the clip, watching his seemingly teenaged surfer chick It Girls hanging out on the beach from afar with binoculars.
Of course the Hat is given some superhero and scoring powers in the video game scenes.
And Pharrell’s larger-than-life impact on pop culture in recent years is represented by his image gracing a re-imagined Mount Rushmore.
But it is the dazzling, rapid-fire images which include dolphin spaceships and glitter-eyed bunnies which make the clip a trippy good time.
It is also a clever way to promote the new single as Williams’ dance card fills up with even more projects including a stint as a coach on the new American season of The Voice.
He is also producing the new solo record for his Voice-co-star Gwen Stefani.
The pair enjoyed huge success with her third solo single Hollaback Girl almost a decade ago.
