ELECTRONIC music guru Paul Mac hosted one of the parties of the year to launch his decade-in-the-making new record Holiday From Me on Wednesday.
It was a big day for the popular producer and DJ who had earlier provided the soundtrack to the celebration of Carla Zampatti’s 50th anniversary and new collection at the Sydney Opera House.
Hours later after last-minute event duties — including collecting the beer and wine himself — the passionate trainspotter joined hundreds of fans, friends and family to board the Holiday From Me Express at Central’s country platform for a mystery ride.

The old-school wooden carriages spirited the party people south, with the destination revealed at the end of the line at Cronulla.
The buzzed brigade then proceeded down the main street — scoring some curious glances and loud cheers from intrigued locals — and ended up at the Shire’s acclaimed Old Library restaurant, owned by Mac’s mate Mario Kalpou.
Mac then kicked off the album listening party with everyone immediately on the dancefloor.
He was joined by several of the album’s singers with the soulful diva Ngaiire delivering sublime renditions of Mystery To Me, Exit Strategy and Someone Else.

Dappled Cities singer Tim Derricourt showed his dance moves as he joined the revellers on the floor as he performed Anechoic.
Faker frontman Nathan Hudson and actor/musician Brendan Maclean had everyone screaming with their track FAQ which Mac has declared to be the world’s first gay duet.
Maclean later suggested it is “the gay Islands In The Stream”.

But the loudest cheer of the night went to Dave Mason, the legendary Reels frontman almost shyly taking the small stage to sing the album’s closing track Not Even Jesus.
Among the revellers were Olympic diver and singer Matt Mitcham, Stereogamous DJ Jonny Seymour, Gang of SHE performance collective and his extended family, including his mum.
Now that is how you do a record launch.
