NSYNC release album — but no-one tells NSYNC
WELL, this is awkward. Seems defunct boy band NSYNC are out of sync with their record company.
Sony this week released a new NSYNC compilation album, The Essential. It’s a two-disc collection that mixes the group’s biggest hits, including Bye, Bye, Bye and I Want You Back, with previously unreleased songs. It’s being released on the 14th anniversary of the band’s sole US number one, It’s Gonna Be Me topping the Billboard Hot 100.
Cause for celebration, right? Well, it might’ve been nice if the record company had, y’know, told the band.
“I love when the record label doesn’t even tell you they are releasing a new NSYNC album tomorrow! #TheyCare,” member Lance Bass oh-so-sarcastically tweeted, sharing a picture of the album’s Amazon listing – apparently the first he’d heard about the record’s release.

Bass seemed more comfortable with the record label’s surprise strategy when fans helped push the collection into the iTunes top ten on its first day of release. We suppose it’s hard to stay mad when you think about the imminent royalty cheque.
I am overwhelmed at what y’all gave us today! A top ten album this many years later. Speechless. Thank you. https://t.co/mteMBgCggN

While the Justin Timberlake-led group formally disbanded back in 2002, they came together for a brief reunion almost a year ago at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
Scoring a chart success with an album the band members themselves didn’t even know about shows that the group still have fans — could another reunion be on the cards in the not-too-distant future?
