IT was cheeky when Sir Mix-A-Lot rapped the praises of the generous posterior on Baby Got Back.

Destiny’s Child later recast the rear as girl power glutes in Bootylicious.

But in the past 12 months, female pop artists have hit rock bottom with their desperate derrière displays.

It is time to ban the butt from music videos.

Miley Cyrus attempted to titillate with the twerk and Nicki Minaj provoked jaw-dropping disbelief with her boisterous backside on the Anaconda clip and her MTV VMAs performance.

Now JLo and Iggy Azalea have teamed up to exploit their ass-ets.

Shaking tail feather was a no-brainer for a song called Booty.

Yet a 30 second trailer of the song’s video which dropped today suggests that instead of simply relying on the beauty and talent of two women who already have a considerable constituency of fans to sell a song, they went for sex sells.

Both women are better than that.

Better than the barely-there bathing suits. Better than the soft porn poses, the wash of “water” dripping suggestively over their bodies. And definitely better than the cigarette hanging out of JLo’s mouth for no apparent reason.

Booty is the latest single from JLo’s AKA album which was DOA on the charts within a week of its release.

The prodigiously talented Lopez who is one of the most successful women in the entertainment industry had a flop. So what?

Make a better album next time.

Resorting to the clickbait of the butt to resurrect a record everyone has already rejected just cheapens the brand.

Instead, the ladies of pop music should take note from emerging global star Meghan Trainor and positive body image anthem All About That Bass.

She topped the Australian charts for three weeks and sold more than 140,000 copies. With her clothes on.
