Nirvana Day to celebrate band on April 10
A US town where Kurt Cobain lived during his short lifetime is honoring the band after announcing the first-ever Nirvana Day to be celebrated on April 10 next year.
While Cobain only lived in Hoquiam, Washington, for a very short time, its Mayor Jack Durney said "Nirvana brings great honour … to our entire community."
Cobain was born and raised in Aberdeen, which is 6 kilometres away.
April 10 is set to be a big day for the band, as they are also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt.
Nirvana was a band formed by Cobain and Krist Novoselic in 1987, with drummer Dave Grohl joining in 1990.
The band had only released three albums before Cobain killed himself in 1994.
