MTV Europe awards all about Minaj
THE MTV Europe Music Awards became the Nicki Minaj show, with the star hosting, performing and taking time out of her duties to also win and accept an award.
Flying into the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow, Scotland wearing a khaki dress with an enormous train and a bedazzled bra that showed off her enormous cleavage, Minaj then made at least eight wardrobe changes during the night.
She performed her hits Anaconda and Super Bass in a sheer lace corset that left little to the imagination and highlighted her trademark booty.
After promising that she was “working on my Scottish accent,” Minaj made a poor attempt at rapping the Scottish anthem I Would Walk 500 Miles before later accepting the award for best hip hop.
But many fans claimed the awards show was rigged and she was only given the gong because Eminem, Drake and Iggy Azalea didn’t turn up.
#MTVEMA all about #Minaj…she’s on stage receiving an award…she’s runs off to change for a song Perfomance ect 🙊 lol ay #toomuch#sameface

Nicki Minaj won an award for best hip hop artist over @Eminem. What is music? What is life?

Eminem should have won Best Hip Hop at the #MTVEMA instead of Nicki Minaj. Argh the votes were rigged man. #HipHopIsDead for sure

Minaj also broke broadcasting rules by liberally swearing throughout the show, at one time dropping the F-bomb three times in a row before apologising.
“Sorry if I just cursed but I am Nicki Minaj,” she said.
That’s a #sorrynotsorry if ever we’ve heard one!
Also performing on the night was Ariana Grande, who stepped on stage in a silver corset and undies, continuing on the A-list tradition of the no-pants performance.
Grande also took home two awards on the night, Best Songfor Problem and Best Female.
Alicia Keys, U2, Ed Sheeran and Enrique Iglesias also performed, while Calvin Harris had to pull our of the show due to illness.
Katy Perry led the field with seven nominations but couldn’t be there to accept her awards as she is currently touring Australia, while pop diva Ariana Grande, boy band One Direction and Happy hit-maker Pharrell Williams also had multiple nods.
Heavy-metal howler turned reality TV star Ozzy Osbourne received a Global Icon Award.
Last year’s awards in Amsterdam were not without controversy, with Miley Cyrus appearing to light and smoke a joint on stage as she accepted the award for best video during the show.
Apart from Minaj’s dominance of the awards show and her tendancy to swear, tonight’s show went largely without any controversial moments.
