A THOUSAND extra tickets to the eagerly awaited Rolling Stones gig at Hanging Rock on March 30 go on sale today.

Promoter Michael Gudinski said the extra capacity had been approved by Macedon Ranges Shire Council.

“These tickets are rare as hens’ teeth, they’re not packages, and they’re not VIP tickets costing $ 1250,” he said.

“But they are top category.”

The tickets, to be released through Ticketmaster, cost $ 575 and $ 380.

Mick Jagger and the Stones arrive in Australia on Sunday and Mr Gudinski said the tour would be one of the most amazing spectacles seen here.

“I saw one of their Hyde Park (London) shows recently and they got rave reviews,” he said.

“This is what spurred them on to keep going. The show was just electric – I have not seen Jagger in better form and they played hit after hit after hit.”

“People who are lucky enough to have (Hanging Rock) tickets, it’s certainly a show that won’t be forgotten.”

The Stones’ show at the landmark is the first under a new deal that Gudinski’s company Frontier Touring has with the Macedon Ranges council to stage events.

Mr Gudinski said he was planning further shows at the Rock.

“The success of shows like Bruce Springsteen and Leonard Cohen at the Rock has certainly garnered incredible international publicity,” he said.

Stones fans will be urged to catch buses to the venue.

The Stones also play Rod Laver Arena on March 28.
