Cornish, whose credits includes Somersault, Sucker Punch and the recent RoboCop reboot, told Confidential: “I grew up wanting to be a musician, but my acting career took off so I pursued that. Acting took me around the world and gave me a pay cheque.

“But I got a point where I felt I was really missing music. I was still playing music and writing music, but it was in the house, behind closed doors.”

Cornish, 32, had a rap career as Dusk before she became known as an actor.

She performed with the Blades crew, and her peers included local hip hop identities Hilltop Hoods, The Herd and Drapht.

“I got into hip hop when I was 13 because my older brother was into it,” she said. “I got into DJing, graffiti, all those elements of hip hop.”

Cornish has been working on a six-track EP, Key Of the Sun, for release later this year.

The lead track, Way Back Home, is about realising the important things in life.

“I was travelling a lot. I realised home is where the heart is. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, you can always find home within yourself, and the people you love,” Cornish said.

She has no plans to retire Dusk when the next film script arrives.

“There won’t be an on and off switch for either,” Cornish said.

“I read a script the other night. I’ll be having meetings for a movie while I’m here.”

Dusk will support US rap legend Nas at his sold-out Forum Theatre show on January 25.

Nas is also performing at Sugar Mountain Festival at the Victorian College of the Arts on January 24.
