KASEY Chambers is tackling religion with her latest single, Is God Real?

The country pop queen has asked a question often avoided in Australian society, admitting her personal views on religion have changed over the years.

“It is a very personal thing, which is probably why we don’t talk about it, but I don’t think that means we shouldn’t,” Chambers said. “I think this is the first time I’ve talked about it publicly.

“I’m not scared of it though, and I’m not scared of opening up a discussion for people about it. I don’t think I am a preacher about it either way.”

Chambers added: “For me, I certainly believe in a higher power. I don’t have a yes or no answer.

LEAGUE TOUGH GUY’S TRIBUTE TO WIFE

I have some sort of belief there, but it has changed a lot over the years. I also believe that everything is in your own control, in how you deal with things and what you learn from them and how that affects you and your life.

“I don’t believe in guilt and I think that is one of the problems I have often had with religion basing things on guilt.”

Is God Real? is the latest single from Chambers’ award-winning 2014 album, Bittersweet.

Chambers, 38, was brought up as Seventh Day Adventist while her ex-partner, Cori Hopper, is an atheist.

Twelve-year-old son Talon was the inspiration for the song as he told his mum he believes in God when he’s at her house and doesn’t when with his father.

“I wondered if Talon was confused but to him it was so simple,” explained Chambers, also mum to Arlo, 7, and Poet, 3.

“I reckon we over-complicate things these days. We live in a world that is so judgmental. No one should ever tell a person what they should or shouldn’t believe. What works for you and gets you through your life to be the person you want to be is right for you.”

Appropriately, Talon appears in the clip that is set in a school and Chambers plays a teacher.

“He’s not a shy kid,” she said of Talon, who auditioned and won the part in the clip.

“But he’s never really done anything much in entertainment. I’ve never pushed him to be in videos but he is naturally interested.”
