AUSSIE rapper Iggy Azalea landed her first high-profile slot performing on Saturday Night Live over the weekend — but it didn’t exactly go off without a hitch.

The 24-year-old Mullumbimby-born beauty scored the song of the American summer when her hit Fancy spent seven consecutive weeks atop the Billboard charts. In the first of her two SNL performance slots, Azalaea mashed up that hit with a rendition of her follow-up single, Black Widow.

So far, so good. But it was Azalea’s second and final performance on the live TV broadcast where things went off track.

Azalea was on form rapping her new single, Beg For It, but the song’s special guest, Danish singer MØ, fared less well.

MØ sings the song’s hook, but appeared nervous and rigid throughout. Most noticeably, she seemed to be out of time with the song’s backing track.

During the show, viewers took to Twitter to criticise the European singer’s under-par performance:

MØ herself has responded to the criticism, tweeting out a handwritten note explaining that she “had some technical issues which caused latency on my vocals, and as a result I got confused and my timing was off.

It pains me and I’m SO sad to say. But life goes on …”

Here’s MØ’s note in full:

Iggy herself hasn’t spoken publicly about the mishap, but MØ does make a point to thank the rapper and her team “who’ve been nothing but supportive and amazing.” After all, Iggy’s no stranger to embarrassing onstage problems — this is the woman who tumbled off stage during a show and laughed about it afterwards.
