AFTER calling it quits to pursue solo careers, Angus and Julia Stone have been coaxed back together by the world’s biggest music guru – Rick Rubin.

The award-winning siblings were on solo tours on the opposite sides of the world when they received an email from the American hitmaker and influential producer requesting to work with them.

Rubin has produced everyone from Mick Jagger and Beastie Boys to Kanye West and Adele over the past 30 years and has also signed Angus and Julia to his label to release their self-titled third record outside of Australia.

The brother and sister had not made music together since 2010’s Down The Way which featured the hit single Big Jet Plane.

It took many months for Angus and Julia to agree to make another duo record, with the first taster, Heart Beats Slow, released today.

“We were in such a good place with being on our own path that this idea of getting back together, it took a long time to agree,” Julia said.

The Stones, who are based in Los Angeles, received an equally random request to play an intimate showcase at a Hollywood mansion.

It turned out their host was Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul.

“The biggest trip was a few weeks ago we were invited to this guy’s house, who is a friend of a friend of ours, to do an acoustic set at his mansion,” Julia said.

“I thought we would probably do well to run through the songs live, as long as no one films it, just to play them.

“We knew it was somebody from the show Breaking Bad and we both love the show and turn up and it’s Jesse Pinkman, Aaron Paul’s house.”

Angus and Julia will return to launch their third record, due for release on August 1, at the sold-out Splendour In The Grass festival.
