Dylan reveals new covers album
HIS music is some of the most-covered songs of all time but Bob Dylan admits he was scared for years to take on Frank Sinatra.
Dylan overnight revealed details of his new album Shadows in the Night, a record of Sinatra classics re-imagined in his distinctive style, reportsRolling Stone.
Produced under Dylan’s pseudonym Jack Frost, the album has ten of the crooner’s classics, including I’m a Fool to Want You, Some Enchanted Evening and Full Moon and Empty Arms.
“It was a real privilege to make this album” said Dylan.
“I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time but was never brave enough to approach 30-piece complicated arrangements and refine them down for a five-piece band. That’s the key to all these performances.”
However, the legendary artist insists he’s “uncovering”, not covering the well-worn tunes.
“We knew these songs extremely well. It was all done live. Maybe one or two takes. No overdubbing. No vocal booths. No headphones. No separate tracking, and, for the most part, mixed as it was recorded,” he explained.
“I don’t see myself as covering these songs in any way. They’ve been covered enough. Buried as a matter of fact. What me and my band are basically doing is uncovering them. Lifting them out of the grave and bringing them into the light of day.”
The album is Dylan’s first since 2012’s Tempest, and will be released in February.
