KFC could have shaken off Taylor Swift’s chances to infiltrate Triple J’s Hottest 100 — and potentially alienated a nation of chicken loving Swift fans in the process.

The fast food giant seized the #tay4hottest100 campaign with greasy fingers last week, referencing it on their social media platforms as part of a competition.

KFC wrote “The #‎tay4hottest100campaign is going strong and she’s got our vote. Tell us which Taylor song is your favourite for your chance to win a voucher for $ 19.89! (Generous, we know). #‎taylortribute”

However the voucher, a reference to Swift’s No.1 album 1989, could have breached Triple J’s Hottest 100 rules that state the station can “remove artists from the list who have benefited from competitions or commercial campaigns that incentivise fans to vote for them”.

The Tay-FC promotion launched last Thursday, with Hottest 100 voting closing last Sunday at midnight.

Triple J have once again declined to comment on the latest twist in the ongoing Taylor Swift/Hottest 100 palaver.

Former Triple J announcer Angela Catterns told The Drum yesterday “You probably know that there was a push to get a Taylor Swift song in (the Hottest 100), which has now been disqualified because a fast food chain became involved in the whole process.”

KFC’s Facebook page, like the campaign itself, now has divided the public.

Natalie Griffin wrote “If this is the reason Taylor is disqualified from the contest I will never eat KFC again!” while Renee Pozzi summed up the other position with “KFC you just got TayTay banned from Hottest 100… Thank you! I love you!”

In what is turning into a deep fried social media turkey, fans continue to flood KFC’s Facebook page with comments like Andy Grove’s “So since your post has apparently disqualified Taylor from the countdown, will you be reimbursing my bet that she will win?” and Liam Smart’s “my favourite (Taylor Swift song) is “We are never getting back together”, just like we will never be getting back together if she gets disqualified from Triple J Hottest 100. Willing to shake it off if you give me a gift card.”

KFC has been approached for comment.

The Hottest 100 will be announced next Monday.
