Miley Cyrus scores Official Charts Number 1 double!

Miley Cyrus has become the first artist this year to land the Official Charts Number 1 double! "I truly appreciate the love I’m getting from the UK," she says.

Miley Cyrus will no doubt be celebrating this evening after topping both the UK’s Official Singles Chart and Official Albums Chart, simultaneously!

The 20-year-old singer and actress fought off tough competition from the likes of Eminem’s Berzerk (Number 2) and last week’s Number 1, Counting Stars by One Republic (3), to debut in pole position on the Official Singles Chart with her latest track, Wrecking Ball.

Meanwhile, on the Official Albums Chart, Miley’s fourth solo full-length, Bangerz, also debuts at Number 1, making her the first artist to score an Official Charts Number 1 double this year. (The last act to achieve such a feat was Olly Murs, with Troublemaker FT Flo Rida taken from his chart topping album Right Place, Right Time, last December).

"I truly appreciate the love I’m getting from the UK," Miley tells OfficialCharts.com. "Not only is this my second Number 1 single, but even more amazing is my album has also gone in at Number 1! I can’t wait to be back in the UK next month."

Despite starring in Disney’s hugely popular Hannah Montana TV show between 2006 and 2011, and releasing music as both herself and her on-screen character, surprisingly, Miley only scored her first ever UK Number 1 single little over two months ago with We Can’t Stop. Her previous highest charting album was 2010’s Can’t Be Tamed, which peaked at Number 8.

Eminem claims this week’s second highest new entry – and his 20th Top 10 single as a lead artist – with Bezerk (Number 2). The track is taken from the US star’s eighth studio album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which is released in the UK next month.

Meanwhile, Conor Maynard debuts at Number 4 with R U Crazy, and The Saturdays are new in at Number 5 with Disco Love. James Blunt scores his first Top 10 single in six years with Bonfire Heart (6), and John Newman enters at Number 9 today with Cheating.

Justin Bieber is new in at Number 14 with Heartbreaker, while Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis score this week’s highest climber with The Fox. The Gangnam Style-esque novelty track soars 22 places to Number 24 today.

In addition to Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz (Number 1), there are nine other new entries on this week’s Official Albums Chart. Saul Milton and Will Kennard, AKA Chase & Status, debut at Number 2 today with their third studio album, Brand New Machine. The follow-up to the London-based duo’s critically and commercially acclaimed 2011 album, No More Idols, features the recent Top 10 hits Lost & Not Found and Count On Me.

Meanwhile, former X Factor star Lucy Spraggan is new in at Number 7 today with her major label debut, Join The Club. The singer’s self-released album, Top Room At the Zoo, peaked at Number 22 on the Official Albums Chart last September before Lucy was asked to take it off sale by the show’s producers. Las Vegas rockers Panic! At The Disco debut at Number 10 today with their fourth album, Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die, while this week’s new entries are completed by Prefab Sprout’s Crimson/Red (15), Korn’s The Paradigm Shift (16) Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip’s Repent Replenish Repeat (22), The Fratellis’ We Need Medicine (26), Anna Calvi’s One Breath (32) and The Feeling’s Boy Cried Wolf (33).
