One Direction is set to blast onto the Billboard Hot 100 with the chart’s highest debut of 2015, as its new single, "Drag Me Down," appears headed for a debut likely in the top five.
Industry forecasters suggest that "Drag," released July 31, could sell around 340,000 downloads in the week ending Aug. 6. That handsome sales start, along with building streaming and airplay data, should enable the track to launch so loftily on the Hot 100.
"Drag" already debuted on Billboard’s Pop Songs airplay chart (dated Aug. 15) after only three days of airplay, at No. 37 with 10 million in radio audience, according to Nielsen Music. It will continue leaping up the list following its first full week of plays.
And, prior to the release of a proper video, "Drag" is trending toward more than 5 million U.S. streams through streaming data collected so far for the Aug. 22-dated tracking week.
