So there we have some news from Adele… she breaks several records: ‘Hello’, the first single from her upcoming album ’25′, sold nearly 2 million copies in its first week at retail… an outstanding record in the ‘download-era’ and the highest weekly sales since 18 years, when Elton John’s ‘Candle In The Wind 1997′ sold nearly 4,5 million copies in the week 41, 1997. On the Global Track Chart ‘Hello’ starts with 1,531,000 points, the first song with more than one million points in a single week since the start of our Mediatraffic Top 40 in January 1999.

In the USA ‘Hello’ starts with 61.6 million streams. Only one track has posted a greater weekly total on Streaming Songs (which originated on March 2, 2013): Baauer’s ‘Harlem Shake’, which peaked with 103 million (powered heavily by user-generated clips featuring the song’s audio) the week that the survey debuted.

According to industry-suggestions the upcoming album ’25′ could sell more than 3 million copies in its first week… it would be a new all-time record! The current record-holder is Japanese pop star Hikaru Utada. Her album ‘Distance’ was released at March 28, 2001 and sold 3,002,720 copies in its first week, according to Oricon… enough for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
