AUSTRALIAN Beliebers have deserted teenage retiree Justin Bieber.

The pop star’s new album Journals limped into the Australian chart at No. 35 this week with just 4067 sales nationally.

Journals was rush-released digitally on December 23 to capitalise on the sales rush before Christmas.

However Australians preferred to buy Michael Buble’s Christmas album (49,108 sales in the week before Christmas), Katy Perry (28,784 sales) and Beyonce (26,904 sales) rather than Bieber.

Journals also tanked in the UK, where it debuted at No. 46.

The album contains ten singles Bieber released each week from last October to early December.

However fans were enticed to buy the album digitally as it contained five previously unreleased songs and extra video content.

The singles all failed to crack the Australian Top 20, with the highest-seller being Heartbreaker which peaked at No. 30, and most barely scraping into the Top 50.

Meanwhile Bieber’s Believe documentary will screen in Australian cinemas for three days only – January 24 to January 27.

The film tanked in the US when released on Christmas Day, taking just $ 4.5 million, compared to the $ 29.5 million his first documentary Never Say Never made in the US in 2011.

Cynics suggested Bieber’s ‘retirement’ on Twitter was designed to get attention for his album and documentary.

Journals is sitting at No. 14 on the iTunes chart in Australia today.

However it will be deleted from iTunes on January 2, and fans will have to purchase all 16 songs individually thereafter. A physical CD release has yet to be confirmed.

Beyonce’s self-titled album may finally give her a solo No. 1 album in Australia next week, with the Buble Christmas album (which was selling for $ 10 in many stores) now out of the picture.

Beyonce is back to No. 1 on iTunes and is now available in a physical CD/DVD version.

Pink’s The Truth About Love dominated Christmas music DVD sales – it sold 42,625 pre-Christmas copies, compared to One Direction at No. 2 on just 4274 for their This Is Us documentary.
