BIG Day Out organisers have made good on their promise to replace British headliner Blur with three new acts including Liam Gallagher’s new band Beady Eye.

Many fans joked that the festival bosses should try to get Oasis to reform after Blur suddenly quit the festival via Facebook late last month.

The two bands were bitter rivals at the height of their careers during the halcyon days of Britpop.

Instead, new Big Day Out co-promoter AJ Maddah has signed Beady Eye for their first Australian shows in January, with festival favourites Deftones and The Hives also joining the bill.

American rockers Pearl Jam will the Big Day Out, along with Beady Eye, The Hives and Deftones.

“We have replaced our departing Britpop band with other members of English rock ‘n’ roll royalty Beady Eye, who are heading to Australia for the first time ever,” they announced in a statement this afternoon.

“Founded in 2009 by Oasis members Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock and Kasabian’s Jay Mehler, Beady Eye have picked up where Oasis left off …”

Any ticketholders unsatisfied with the alteration to the line-up can apply for immediate refund until January 6.
