AUSTRALIAN rapper Iggy Azalea has joined the Beatles as the only artists to rank in the top two spots simultaneously with her first two Hot 100 hits.

The last time the Billboard Hot 100 celebrated this debutant achievement was in 1964, when the Beatles’ I Want To Hold Your Hand was at number one and She Loves Me at number two.

Azalea’s Fancy, featuring Charli XCX, has just moved into the top spot, as Ariana Grande’s Problem — on which Azalea is featured artist — moved to second place,

Azalea, 23, is only the 15th act to double up in the top two ranks with any two titles, and only the fourth solo female rapper to top the venerated Billboard chart. Lauryn Hill was the first in 1998.

Azalea took to Twitter to express her pleasure: “Well I’m very pleased, last year seemed impossible to convince anyone in the music business I could break into the top 100. Haha.

The honour was a nice antidote to singer K Michelle’s Twitter sledge earlier in the week, who fired off at Azalea for daring to rap like an American. Gossip blogger Perez Hilton — an unabashed Azalea supporter — leapt to her defence, engaging in an all-out Twitter duel with the snarky singer.
