THEIR latest single has failed to make the Top 50 and some of their “jokes” have left a bad taste in the public’s mouths.

But that hasn’t stopped a Hollywood film studio from laying bets that Australian pranksters The Janoskians (Just Another Name Of Silly Kids In Another Nation) could be the next Jackass style movie sensation.

Lionsgate, the studio behind hit young adult franchises
Twilight
and
The Hunger Games,
has signed the Melbourne group to a deal to make a movie in which the boys reportedly adjust to life in LA and throw a huge party.

that the plan is to put the lads in a partially-scripted film setting — perhaps akin to the Jackass crew’s recent hit Bad Grandpa, in which Johnny Knoxville was playing a character within a loose storyline, but played pranks on unsuspecting members of the public.

UK boy band One Direction took a shot at movie success last year with the concert doco This is Us, with modest results — the film grossed $ 2.8 million in Australia and $ 73.5 million worldwide. It is not known how heavily The Janoskians’ music will feature in their film.

The script is to be written by New York stand-up comedian Dan Ahdoot, who is also a regular on the Disney cable channel show Kickin’ It. It is believed the film will have only a small production budget.

Janoskians member Beau Brooks said of the deal in a statement: “In our wildest dreams we never thought we would end up working with a company like Lionsgate. They take risks, break rules and make epic movies. We can’t wait to take our pranks and jokes to the next level. We know we are lucky, and we will make the most of it, we promise you.”

The Janoskians first started posting their pranks and gross-out stunts to YouTube in 2011 and were soon pulling large crowds of mostly teenage girls to their public appearances. They signed to Sony Music Australia in 2012, with their first single reaching the Top 20.

The group, made up of Beau, Jai and Luke Brooks, Daniel Sahyounie and James Yammouni, have 1.23 million followers on Twitter and 1.5 million subscribers to their YouTube channel. Earlier this year, police were forced to cordon off a New York block when a reported 20,000 fans tried to meet the lads.

However, The Janoskian’s potty-mouthed new single, Real Girls Eat Cake, has failed to make any kind of dint on the Australian charts.

And the group’s juvenile humour hit new lows last year when they filmed themselves simulating sex acts in front of horrified onlookers, including a mother and baby.

The video was described by child protection and family groups as “sexual assault”.

Anti-abuse lobby group, Safe Australia Movement, said the clip contains ‘’paedophilic references aimed at a six-week-old baby and her mother’’.

After their initial response was a tweeted “Don’t give a f— if you hate it or like it’’, the group were forced by their record label to apologise.

The film is likely to have a quick turnaround to capitalise on the band’s already-ticking 15 minutes of fame.
