AN ALTERNATIVE version of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven that has never been public will appear on a re-release of one of the band’s classic albums.

The Independent
reports that guitarist Jimmy Page rescued the mix from the vaults and will include the track on the October release of the band’s album Led Zeppelin IV.

The eight-minute track released in 1971 has one of the most iconic guitar intros ever.

A statement issued by the band’s record label, Atlantic, said the remastered version of the album will feature “the fabled, alternate version Stairway To Heaven, mixed at the Sunset Sound Studio in Los Angeles which lets fans hear one of the most revered songs of all time as they have never heard it before.”

Neither Atlantic nor Page gave any more information about what the alternative version may sound like.

The re-release contains classic Zeppelin tracks including Rock And Roll, Black Dog and When The Levee Breaks, as well as unheard mixes of Misty Mountain Hop and Four Sticks.

Led Zeppelin IV sold 37 million copies when it was originally released.

Led Zeppelin’s first three albums were rereleased in June and debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart.
