SUNNY weather and stellar performers drew a 45,000 strong crowd to Flemington Racecourse for the annual Future Music Festival.

Headline act and man of the moment Pharrell Williams made a short but memorable appearance in his trademark hat.

He used his surprisingly early (4pm) and surprisingly short (30 minutes) set for a DJ mix set full of the greatest bits of his greatest hits.

Ditching his shirt, Williams ploughed through Frontin’, Lapdance, She Wants to Move — and those he wrote for others, including Snoop Dogg’s Beautiful, Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl and Nelly’s Hot in Herre.

He updated proceedings with songs that dominated last year — Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines and Daft Punk’s Get Lucky — and ended with the anthemic, unavoidable Happy.

US chart toppers Macklemore and Lewis added a social conscience to the day with their equal rights ode Same Love while the crowd of about 35,000 bounced between stages watching Phoenix, Deadmau5, Rudimental and Cut Copy.

Police said they arrested 48 people at the festival and seized a number of drugs, including ecstasy, cannabis and amphetamine. A total of 45 people received drug diversions and three people received cannabis cautions.

The offenders included 42 males and six females.
