JUMPING on hotel beds and ordering peanut butter and jelly sandwiches is how Pharrell Williams celebrates being on top of the world.

Pharrell Williams must be eating a lot of sandwiches this week, as that irresistible burst of sonic sunshine Happy remains at the top of the charts after nine weeks and 95 million YouTube views.

And there was that dance-off at the Oscars with Lupita Nyong’o, Meryl Streep and Amy Adams.

One of the most powerful hit makers in pop music said he, his wife Helen Lasichanh and their team will run into a room, shut the door and start squealing like overexcited children when success happens.

“As soon as we get to the hotel room and the door is closed, we freak out for 20 minutes straight, order up peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and jump on the bed,” he said.

After a string of hits for other people which started with Blurred Lines and continued with Get Lucky, Williams is now the star and not “the guy standing next to the guy”.

But he isn’t claiming credit for any of it.

“I know what the top of clouds look like because of my fans,” he said.

“The movement that Happy has become has surpassed any lyric I put in there and it ain’t my song anymore. They did it, they are doing it. It’s not my doing to be nominated for an Academy Award.”

Williams headed to Australia straight after his Oscars performance to join the Future Music Festival this weekend.

“Trust me, we are all Frozen … with love, with love,” he joked about the winner for Best Original Song.

The producer to the stars called on his enviable contact list to invite Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, Daft Punk and Kelly Osbourne to collaborate on GIRL.

And even with that orbit of superstar talent and the record’s instant success, Williams is not the pop apple of his son Rocket’s eyes.

“He loves Katy Perry. He tells her he wants to kiss her. She’s his girlfriend,” he said.

Williams hopes to return to Australia for his own headlining tour later this year.
