SYDNEYSIDERS, do not be alarmed by the giant glowing orb in our Harbour over the coming weeks.
No, the aliens have not landed — it’s the most impressive prop from Handa Opera’s new production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
For 20 performances from March 21, a cast of 60 international and local artists will breathe life into La Fura dels Baus’ striking production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
Set on Opera Australia’s biggest ever Harbour stage, the production comes complete with giant sun and moon, Japanese bamboo forest, a speed boat arrival, two working cars, two cranes, live orchestra and two firework moments in every performance.
Last night, we got a first look at this incredible set as it was brought to life — check out the stunning pictures below. More information from Opera Australia.
