IF the rock star business all goes to pot, we now know that Chris Martin can pull a mean beer.
Martin, who has been holed up in the UK for weeks working on Coldplay’s new album, came out of hiding to play barman and perform a pub gig for around 120 lucky punters at a Somerset pub.
After serving a few pints at the Ring O’Bells pub, Martin and bandmates Guy Berryman, Will Champion, and Johnny Buckland took to the stage where they performed a 40-minute set of their greatest hits, reports The Sun.
Locals, friends and staff from the band’s record label danced along inside the pub that is part-owned by Miles Leonard, boss of the label and the man who gave Coldplay their first deal.
And with Glastonbury being just down the road, the event’s legendary organiser Michael Eavis showed up with daughter Emily.
A punter said: “It was a stunning gig. Incredible. One we’ll never forget. Chris was on form behind the bar and on stage.”
And Martin added that he was only too pleased to be playing second fiddle to the evening’s main act.
“We’re delighted to be supporting Chas ’n’ Dave,” he said.
Technically, the main act featured Chas and his son Nik performing family favourites, while a cardboard cut-out replaced the absent Dave.
