GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate has picked a fight with one of the world’s biggest pop stars – supplying Justin Bieber with a graffiti removal kit and demanding he clean up his own mess at a Surfers Paradise hotel.

Meanwhile, Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie has taken a break from battling bikies to give the 19-year-old singer a stern telling-off for defacing a wall at the QT Hotel yesterday morning.

“Justin Bieber is a role model to many young people so, if the claims are correct, it is disappointing that he did this without permission,” he told The Courier-Mail.

“It’s up to the hotel to make a complaint if it chooses.”Following his first Brisbane show, Bieber and his entourage vandalised a wall by the tennis court in the early hours of the morning, posting a pic of the graffiti on Instagram and leaving several spraycans for staff to clean up.

Cr Tate was unimpressed with the teen heart-throb’s “silly” antics and yesterday said he planned to have a graffiti removal kit couriered to the hotel’s reception for Bieber’s collection.”We’ve all been young once,” he said. “By the sounds of it, he’s gone and done something really, really silly.

“But he’s got an opportunity to make good – I’m sending, straight away, one of council’s free graffiti kits … and I urge him to treat this city the way Gold Coast fans treat him.”

Bieber has previously courted controversy as a result of his penchant for unauthorised artwork, causing a ruckus in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month when he defaced a public wall.

Mr Bleijie said councils spent millions of dollars on tackling the graffiti problem.

A spokeswoman for QT said she was unaware of any request from Bieber to spray paint the property and the hotel had no designated area for graffiti.

“I don’t know how this has come about,” she said.

It is unclear if charges will be pressed.

“Legitimate art and expression is great, as long as it’s with permission,” Mr Bleijie said.
