AN R&B singer has died in a freak accident, after she reportedly fell while holding a wine glass and bled to death as a result of cutting her neck with the broken shards.
TMZ reports Charmayne Maxwell, a former singer from ‘90s R&B group Brownstone, died on Friday evening after falling backward at the doorway between the house and the back patio while holding a wine glass.
“We’re told during the fall, the wine glass shattered on the ground behind Maxwell’s head,” the gossip site reported, “and when she landed shards of glass punctured the back of her neck in two places. We’re told there was an injury to the back of her head, and it’s possible she was knocked unconscious.”
Maxwell’s husband Carsten Soulshock reportedly came home around 9PM and found her bleeding.
The grisly death was confirmed by her brother, Brandon, who tweeted over the weekend that “my sister died in the most terrible way and I’m in so much pain right now”.
The 46-year-old, who sung with Grammy-nominated Brownstone for more than a decade, leaves behind an 11-year-old son.
A coroner is now conducting an autopsy and toxicology test to determine what caused her to fall and whether she was intoxicated at the time.
