DAN Sultan will headline this year’s National Indigenous Music Awards.
“I’d jump at the opportunity just to attend the awards, let alone play at them,” Melbourne-based musician Sultan said.
Sultan’s new album Blackbird — his third — has now spent three weeks in the ARIA Charts Top 10.
“It came in at No. 4 which was amazing,” the ARIA award-winning singer said. “It’s kind of surreal to see yourself in there, you just try to play your natural game and take it as it comes.

“It’s going well, it’s very encouraging. I feel like I’m doing it more than I’ve ever done it, if that makes sense. I feel like now I’m really going for it.”

Sultan has just finished a video for his next single Kimberley Calling.
“We were in Broome for a week making the clip, so that was terrible as you can imagine.”
Former AFL star Nathan Lovett-Murray, who now runs Payback Records, will stage an indigenous hip hop showcase at the awards.
Briggs and Jimblah will perform, with Lovett-Murray about to release music by new act Miss Hood.
