INNOVATIVE instrumental duo Hermitude have become the first hip-hop act to win the eighth Australian Music Prize.
The Blue Mountains duo of Luke Dubs (Luke Dubber) and Elgusto (Angus Stuart) emerged from a shortlist of nine artists, including favourites Flume and Tame Impala to win the $ 30,000 prize for their HyperParadise record.
Their fourth album was universally acclaimed when it was released last year and the band went on to become festival favourites throughout the summer, culminating with a sold-out national tour last month.
They were nominated alongside their manager and label owner Tim Levinson, aka Urthboy, whose record Smokey’s Haunt was also co-produced by Hermitude.
