The Hold Back The River star, who tried to cure his jet lag with a sprint across the Sydney Harbour Bridge at dawn on Wednesday, said he quit rugby to save his fingers for guitar shredding.

“I love skateboarding, but I had to stop playing sports to save my fingers. Playing the guitar means too much to me and having broken fingers is not an attractive thing.

“Broken anything isn’t good,” he said.

The rock cat in the hat has been one of the breakout chart stars of this year, with Hold Back The River and Let It Go keeping him on the road throughout Europe and America.

He is back in town for his second visit in six months, a sold-out gig in Sydney and to announce the Chaos and the Calm national tour in will return to Australia in early 2016.

Like Ed Sheeran, Bay plans to keep the Australian fan fires stoked with face time here where Hold Back The River claimed triple platinum sales, and Let It Go recently reached the platinum mark of 70,000 copies sold.

His debut album Chaos and the Calm has sold more than one million copies since its March release, with Bay performing in front of 70,000 people at the Glastonbury festival in the UK in June, and in front of tens of thousands of American fans at Lollapalooza in Chicago last week.

It’s a long way from the London pub basement gigs he was playing in front of 100 people before he scored a record deal.

“It’s still just getting started for me, and I plan on making two or three more visits to all these places before I hide away to come back with new stuff,” he said.

One of Bay’s goals for world domination is to help orchestrate the return of the guitar solo.

With only a debut album’s worth of songs to play, he is relishing the opportunity to stretch out on the axe jams.

“Everyone was adamant the guitar solo had gone away and maybe people did bored of them,” Bay said.

“As long as it has a good melody, it will come around again. The sax and horns have come back and on a whole other level, the best thing about guitar solos is there are no rules.”

Tickets go on sale from August 20 for the national tour, which kicks off at Arts Centre, Fremantle on January 30 and heads to AEC Theatre, Adelaide on February 2, Festival Hall, Melbourne on February 3, Hordern Pavilion, Sydney on February 6 and Brisbane Convention Centre on February 7.

Tyler claimed last month he had been banned from bringing his Cherry Bomb World Tour to Australia because of a Collective Shout petition urging Immigration Minister Peter Dutton not to issue the rapper with a visa.

His promoter Frontier Touring clarified that he had not prohibited from entering the country but there were issues for his visa.

But today they confirmed the tour was off.

“We would much rather come to Australia when it isn’t surrounded in controversy. I love my fans there and hopefully I’ll be back soon. Don’t do drugs,” Tyler said in a statement issued by Frontier.

Women involved in Collective Shout, which state on their website they are a campaigning movement protesting the “objectification of women and sexualisation of girls in media, advertising and popular culture”, have previously been trolled on social media for speaking out against Tyler The Creator’s music.

She became the target on online bullying from his fans, with the rapper again taking to Twitter to distance himself from the anti-social behaviour.

Collective Shout posted Frontier’s announcement of the cancellation with the word “WIN!”

“Frontier Touring sincerely apologises to all those affected by this cancellation. Existing ticketholders are entitled to a refund …,” the promoter said with details via frontiertouring.com

The pop star who went viral for kissing a man during a performance and set jaws dropping when he was announced as the singer for Queen’s tour last year said the success of his dark folk meets house hit Ghost Town proved people still liked him.

The song has already notched up gold sales in Australia where he has been a frequent visitor since his run on American Idol in 2009 and is back to launch his latest album The Original High and perform on The Voice on Sunday.

“I haven’t been forgotten or anything!” he said.

Lambert said the switch in musical direction was partly influence by his tour with Queen and the hit Lay Me Down, his collaboration with Avicii which appeared on the superstar DJ’s debut artist album.

“Both of those projects reminded me there is so much out there that is possible regardless of your backstory or what show you came from,” he said.

“Being asked to work with Queen and Avicii says that at some point your work can speak for itself.”

After previous records forthrightly addressed gay issues, Lambert said The Original High was more about his personal search for “something or someone”.

“I do have this longing and I talk to my friends who are about my age all the time that after all the experiences I have had and travelling and performing, I am still longing for something and I keep looking for it,” he said.

“When I figure it out, the next album will be called I Chased It and I Caught It.”

Lambert said the video shoot for Ghost Town, made with award-winning director Hype Williams, was a two-day long house party.

“We had dips and chips and very good tequila, which I sip,” he said.

His acting skills were put to the test when he joined Glee for several episodes of their 2013 season and said he would be keen to take on more acting projects.

“I had a lot of fun on Glee, it was a big challenge. I remember the day I went to the set thinking ‘I hope this is going to work because no one bothered to audition me’. I was kinda nervous,” he said.

Lambert will today announce the dates for a tour of Australia in January.

According to Billboard, touring revenue accounted for 80 per cent of the income earned by Top 40 acts last year.

But it’s not just the Miley Cyruses and Drakes who benefit from hitting the road: It’s roadies, stylists and even drug holders.

While the artists naturally see the biggest money from arena shows — anywhere from $ 3.3 million to $ 30 million for a 40-date headlining bill — everyone throughout their tour party benefits as well.

It’s reportedly common for major artists to have a “joint roller” on tour with them.

In a handy infographic, the magazine lays out all the different ways you can earn money on a tour, including handling set design ($ 25,000-$ 50,000 per tour), animating video ($ 1,000 per minute of footage) and shooting off fireworks ($ 1,000-$ 2,000 per week).

The most eyebrow-raising amount: An artist’s drug holder/blunt roller can clear around $ 500 a week, a “salary” that also includes travel and hotel expenses.

Of course, if one’s lucky enough to link up with Waka Flocka Flame, they can make a whole lot more.
